Budapest Hostel Review

UNITY TRAVELLER HOSTEL

Again, we used the Hostelworld app. Download if you are going to interrail, it's hassle free!

Facilities

Like Advantage, Unity Traveller had a common room and kitchenette for guests of the hostel. They advertised that the provided laundry facilities however his came at the cost of 2500FT which is the equivalent of around £8. So this means regardless of whether you are doing a full wash you are paying this standard fare and there is the chance that your belongings will be mixed up with others. We used a local launderette instead which was half the price. There is also a smoking area on the second floor of the hostel. Wifi is also pretty good here.

Breakfast

Breakfast was included at this hostel. Similar to the others, being quite basic with a selection of bread and cereal. It was served between 8-10 but I would avoid going later on because bread becomes scarce towards the end of breakfast.

Showers/Toilets

There was a toilet on the first floor but the main bathrooms were upstairs. There were two shared showers and these were not split for genders. The showers were always clean, staff cleaned them at least once a day. The shower themselves had good pressure and temperature, although it was not attached to the wall so you had to hold it. Apart from that they were pretty good.

Staff

Staff were really nice and helpful on arrival. They have a 24 hour reception and will let you in late at night if needs be via the buzzer downstairs. They are happy to help and give advice, especially with   particular trips e.g. The Baths,Caving etc... The hostel has a real family feel to it, which is down to the staff. With particular members of staff some things get lost in translation but hey ho. Moreover, one member of staff brings their child with them to work, which is fine but when you hear a screaming child at 8 o'clock I'm the morning, it is LESS than ideal.

Value for Money

This was a cheaper hostel starting from around 2000FT per night which is pretty decent and for the facilities provided a bargain!

Dorms

The rooms were quite cramped, with only a small circle in the middle to sit in, which made getting ready and packing our bags up more difficult. The lockers were large and again you needed to bring your own padlock. There were quite a few plug sockets but they were only at certain beds therefore making it harder if you were without a plug.

Location

The hostel was a metro and tram ride from the main station although without bags definitely walkable. We predominantly used public transport to get around and never had to walk more than 20 minutes to the initial sites we saw. It's close to a lot of nice bars and restaurants and I would definitely recommend staying in the area of Kiraly Utca.

Extras

The directions provided on Hostelworld were okay. However, the metro instructions were slightly unclear and the tram directions were incorrect. Furthermore, the point of reference used was a Spar on the corner, but in the immediate vicinity of the tram stop there appeared to be a Spar on every corner. Despite this, we got the hostel fine.

Important to know that the hostel is in a residential building therefore you are asked to be quiet by 10 o'clock and the common room closed at 12. This wasn't particularly an issue for us as we would be out to dinner or out at bars so it didn't necessarily affect us.

OVERALL

I would recommend staying at this hostel, the location is good, staff are helpful and polite and rooms are what you need whilst you are interrailing.
