So after three buses and a ferry we finally arrived at our Destination; Magnetic Island. Unfortunately, our penultimate stop of the East Coast! A couple days of chilling out is exactly what the doctor ordered!
*Word of Warning* If you are planning on staying on Magnetic Island- bring your own food! It is extortionate to buy here, I don't understand how locals cope.
Horseshoe Bay
Our first hostel was found the corner from Horseshoe Bay so we thought it would be rude to not check it out. One of the selling points of this side of the island is that there are nets so you can go in the water without stinger suits-result!
The bay itself is quite nice although not the nicest beach we have seen on our East Coast tour! However, nice to chill and have an ice cream at.
Beware because the walk here is littered with critters: creepy crawlies, snakes, wallabies, possums!
Base
Everyone goes on about Base being more like a resort than a hostel and it is really nice and does have a nice pool. Perfect to chill next to, although more sun loungers are essential because the tiles get so damn hot!!
There isn't a massive night life scene on Magnetic Island so if you are looking at going out for a few drinks your best bet is the bar at base. You even get a welcome drink when you check in. Prices aren't too bad especially if you go around the happy hours!
Barbie Cars
We didn't end up renting a barbie car in the end however we did get taken around in one. They are a nifty way of getting round the island but make sure that:
1. You are over the age of 21
- You can only rent them if you are over 21 regardless if you hade held a livence for a number of years
2. Get up and take advantage of them because they can be pricey and you don't want to feel like you have wasted the day
3. Listen to terms and conditions, often there is a surcharge for additional miles
4. Shop around for them, there can be $20 difference in prices so get the most for your money!
I loved my time to relax and do very little especially after the hectic week we had!
Love Imogen xoxo
