Sydney 2.0 Hostel Review Part 2

ASYLUM HOSTEL

Facilities

The reception has opening times between 9 and 7 although it is likely that you will come to the door and it will be locked. There is a number to call if it's urgent but if it can wait there is normally a member of staff around the hostel anyway. You can only enter the hostel with your room key and a security code, so quite good security wise.

You have to pay for wifi here and it is charged daily but may also change half way through the day. Normally someone in the hostel will have it and share so if you return the favour it works well. If not, there is a Telstra hotspot nearby and a McDonald's down the road.

The kitchen is kept pretty clean but can get very busy. You will also have to fight for fridge space but that's what hostels are like. There is an outside area which people tend to eat and play drinking games. There is also a lounge with computers and a tv with a hard drive full of films and tv programs to watch.

Showers and Toilets

There are showers and toilets dotted around all over the place which are kept very clean especially for the amount of people using them. You sometimes found yourself waiting to use them, but never long enough to cause a real issue.

Staff

Staff here are really friendly- a lot of the staff work and stay at the hostel so take pride in the cleaning of the communal areas etc because they have to live there themselves.

Breakfast

Although basic, breakfast here is included- a real novelty in Australia! It consisted of bread for toasting, cereal, spreads and tea and coffee.

Value for Money

It's quite pricey coming in at $30 per night however they put it on hostel world for 20 but then you have to stay an additional night for 40. Smart ay? It's not really worth that much but we met some great people whilst we were there which made up for it!

Dorms

I am not going to lie when we looked in our room we were shocked because it was so messy despite being warned. It was cleaned for our arrival but because most of the people who stay are workers he place gets messy quite easily. There were two fans in the room that we stayed in so it kept at quite a nice temperature.

Location

The hostel is in Kings Cross. I was warned a lot about Kings Cross when I came to Sydney but to be honest it was absolutely fine and for what you are paying to stay there it's fine! For the main sites you are further out than if you were to stay in the CBD however it is not is long walk and there is train station. Furthermore, you can easily get the train to the airport from here and it takes less time than a taxi.

OVERALL, the people we met at this hostel really made the place but the place could do with a bit of sprucing up!

Love Imogen xoxo
